Chapter 3

I couldn’t believe my eyes. I was finally leaving Plederia, and getting to explore the world, with my drakön, Saphire. I couldn’t wait, but I was nervous, I had never left the capital of Terias, and being a Dr means that I will have to travel to the more rural parts, but first I needed to meet the other Drs.

Saphire and I needed to get to Headquarters, where important people like the King, Lords and Ladies of regions, and Drs meet. The journey up north to HQ was supposed to take days, but with Saphire, it only took a few hours. We went into a giant building filled with important people, and we took our seats.

“Ladies and Gentlemen,” King Orotund said “Or not-so gentle men, please take your seats.”

The crowd grows quiet as everyone starts to look for their seats,  “We have all gathered here to celebrate our new Drs who will travel seeking peace. Drs, it is time to take your oaths. Aelia and Ruby of the Chimerafuego clan, please come to the stage.”

A girl about my age, the only one in the room who looks about my age, goes to the stage. Her brown curls look like an inferno framing her head, and her eyes are a striking violet.

“Repeat after me, I Aelia Elan of the Chimerafuego clan, promise to—” King Orotund starts

He was cut off with a loud ‘BANG,’ and then another one. Chunks of the ceiling start to fall, and people start to panic, some start screaming. I look to Aelia, an idea forming in my head, but I would need to use lava, a fire power.

She looked at me, and I instinctively knew she had the same idea as me. Obsidian: a substance that can only be made using lava and water is one of the strongest materials you can make using powers (magic if you must), so surely it would be able to hold the ceiling.

I closed my eyes and felt the moisture in the room, while she closed hers and felt all the warmth in the room. We concentrated, and the room started to get colder and drier by the second. The few minutes that it took to make water and lava felt like eternity, but once we did, all the mayhem and chaos stopped, just like that. All eyes were on us. The water and lava melded, turning purple. Then came the hard part: spreading obsidian over the ceiling to stop debris from getting through. We are sweating, though the room has no warmth. I think of my mom hearing the news the next day. I think of Saphire watching me. I have to do this for them; My mom would kill me if I died. I look to Aelia and we both push as hard as we can. Slowly but surely, the obsidian starts to cover the cracks, one by one. Soon the whole ceiling is covered, and we nearly collapse from exhaustion, but the people catch us. The room erupts in celebration as warmth floods back into the room and moisture returns. We haven’t even started our jobs, and we’re already famous. Well, you could say our careers started off with a bang!

About Me

Hi, my name is Sanaa, I was eight years old and in third grade when I started my blog. I’m vegetarian and I love to travel. I’m the youngest in my family and I’ve seen less, but I love traveling just as much. I have been near and far, but my favorite places so far are NYC, London, Singapore, and France (Paris, Champagne). My favorite food is falafel, my favorite colors are blue, white, and black, and I love to read, draw and build Legos.
