Once the excitement of the ambush was over, Aelia and I were the only ones who the kingdom trusted to find and destroy the attackers. But, of course, because that was not hard enough for us, and we were “Destined for something greater,” as the King put it, we additionally had to do the Magic Quest.
The Magic Quest was undertaken by only the strongest and most powerful Drs in the Kingdom, not by a couple of teenagers with swords. If that was the quest you were assigned, you had to travel around Terias and master all the magics: Earth, Water, Fire, and Wind. The only problem was, no one had ever completed it before, because all the powers swirling inside them made them… well, combust. I don’t know about Aelia, but I don’t want to explode. I looked at her, thinking NOPE! She heard it, and she definitely understood, but since I have such loyal, caring friends, she turned to the King and said yes.
“Excellent. I will have you started right away.” The King is pleased.
“Of course, my King.” Aelia responds. The King looks at me.
“Oh. Um. Yeah. Sure. Why not.” He raises an eyebrow, “Er, my King,” I add hastily.
Aelia rolls her eyes at me and cringes. How diplomatic, she thinks. I think back at her, Shut up.
“Well, then that’s decided,” the King interrupts us.
“Er. Yeah—“ I start, then Aelia wisely interrupts me.
“Great. How soon can we start?”
“Well, I have someone for you to meet first. The Commander of Terias’ army, my daughter, and the princess of Terias - Elsa.”
A girl walks in, who I presume is the princess. She cannot be more than two years older than us, though she holds herself like an adult. She has a muscular build, and blue eyes. She has long blond locks, so light, they’re almost white. She is wearing full armor; she carries her helmet. She kisses her dad on the cheek, then sizes us up. Her eyes catch on our swords.
“Are those toothpicks your weapons?” She looks to her ginormous, bloody Battleaxe. “Because, we have some extras in the armory.” Aelia shoots her a glare, and I frown at our “toothpicks.”
“What do you have?” I ask, and Aelia turns her death gaze on me. The princess smiles, and we walk to the armory. Everything is comically huge. Our eyes widen. Aelia runs straight to the scimitars, and claims two, with ends that slice through the air so cleanly, I have no doubt they could do the same to human flesh. She then covers them in tar, and lights them on fire.
“Nice,” She whispers to herself, before cutting of the fire abruptly.
I cannot seem to find anything that fits me, as a main weapon. I line belts and compartments resting above my legs and arms with poisons, throwing knives, and a bow slung over on my back. I look over everything, but nothing feels right.
Then, I see a sparkle on the ground. Huh. I lean over and start in surprise. It’s a tiny trident, small enough to fit in your pocket. It’s cute. I pick it up, but as I do, it turns bigger, and bigger. Soon, I have a not-so-cute, ginormous, trident in my hand. There’s a symbol on it. I look closer, and it looks like some sort of crest. I touch it, and I am sucked into an empty white space. Suddenly images flash in front of me. There’s the trident! There’s the crest! Wait, who’s that man holding the trident? Now, I am underwater. Then, I am in a raging storm, in a warship. There’s that man again! He is holding the trident and directing the storm with it.
“Onwards!” He bellows.
I see another ship. Then, I realize what is about to happen, and I cover my eyes. When I finally open them, no one on the other ship is alive.
I gasp, as my eyes fly open. I have no idea what I just saw, but I know for sure, I am never touching the crest again. Where have I seen that man before? I know that voice. I push the thought aside. What’s important, is, the trident is mine. I don’t know how, or why, but it is. I can feel it, I know it. Turn tiny again, I order. Then, surprisingly, it does, and I put it in my pocket. I look up, and both Aelia and Elsa are staring at me, wide-eyed.
“Hey?” I say questioningly. Then, they both bombard me with questions about what just happened. They both want to try to make the trident large, so I give it to them, but nothing happens. When I hold it, it turns to it’s full size again, but when I give it back to them, it turns to a small token. They don’t see any disturbing images fly by if they touch the crest. I look down, as they wonder about why it doesn’t work again, then yelp in surprise. My wrist has the crest tattooed on it!
I don’t want to show them; that will lead to more arguing, so I pull my sleeve over it, and put my arm behind my back.
Everyone is armed and satisfied, so we walk out the castle gates, and we head to the next stop, on our Draköns, (Elsa boarding Saphire with me): Rargieo, the land of the Typhontierra, and the home of Earth Toners, and for the first time, I am confident I can face whatever comes my way. I smile at the trident and my friends, and look at the green landscape in front of us, seeing Rargieo in the distance. You have no idea what you’re in for.
