The Hunger Games

The Hunger Games Trilogy (the first three books) are one of my favorite series. Written in first person, with a lot of interesting detail by Suzzanne Collins. After one minute into reading the book, you are Katniss (the main character). Everything that happens, happens to you. Every feeling portrayed, you feel. It is amazing how into it you can feel, and at some parts of the book, I had to put it down because of how enraged or sad I was.

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is the 4th book in The Hunger Games, the prologue, and is my favorite book in one of my favorite series. This book explains the background; the why. All the questions from the book get answered, and everything clicks.

In some books, there are boring parts that you want to skip. Even Harry Potter has parts like that (the beginning of the first book), but every part of this book is captivating, from dialogues, to action scenes. Though it is a prologue, I would recommend you read it after the trilogy, so a lot of things make sense and so you have background knowledge.

⚠️Warning: The following content may include some spoilers⚠️Do not read if sensitive to spoilers⚠️If you are worried, the spoilers are only about the first part of the first book⚠️

The Hunger Games Trilogy is about Katniss, a girl who lives in the mines of her kingdom, called Sector 12. Her father died in a mine accident, and she is closer to her sister, Prim, than her mother. On the Reaping Day, the day where people get chosen for the Hunger Games (A battle to the death for the Capitol’s enjoyment; if you win, you get riches and wealth for the rest of your life), Prim gets chosen. Katniss is devastated. This is all part of their twisted mind games: Watch us, they’re saying, watch as we take your children and there is nothing you can do about it. She thinks about this as Prim goes. There is one thing I can do. “Stop!” She calls out. She asks to take Prim’s place; there is a rule stating that she can. So, she does.

The story is about her progressing through the Hunger Games, the story is about corruption and dictatorship, and I love every part of it. Especially, the 4th book!

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is about Coriolanus Snow, the antagonist in the hunger games. In the hunger games, he is an evil dictator who condones the savage Hunger Games. In The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, he is just a boy. Why does he hate Katniss? Why is he so evil? How did he come to power? How did the Hunger Games come to be? These, and more questions get answered in The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. What are you waiting for? Get out there and read The Hunger Games.
