The Lunar Chronicles-Books 1-3

This is still one of my favorite book series, and I read it in 3rd grade! It’s a futuristic twist on fairytales like Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, and Rapunzel. It is filled with adventure, plot twists, and magic! I recommend it for people who like sci-fi, adventure, and/or fantasy.

️SPOILERS START HERE

  1. CINDER - It takes place in the future, where Cinder, who is a cyborg, works at her mechanic stand, making money for her stepmother - Adri who practically owns her, by law. Her only friends are a malfunctioning robot and her younger stepsister. The Lunars, who live on the moon have ‘magical powers’ and can control your thoughts and read your mind. They can control your body, and change how they look, and manipulate you.  ‘The Plague,’ or Letumosis is a worldwide pandemic that has no cure, so when Adri volunteers Cinder to be tested, Cinder resists, not wanting to die. But when she arrives at the lab, she is immune. Why? Dr. Erland says she’s a lunar. WAIT WHAT? And that is what starts a revolution. How? Read the book to find out! This book is filled with romance, twists and turns, betrayal, and sarcasm, and if you haven’t figured it out already, it is a twist on Cinderella.

  2. Scarlet - Everything was good until they took her grandma. Now they get to pay. Who

exactly needs to pay? 18-year-old Scarlet hasn’t the foggiest idea. All she knows is that when she finds them, they are going to get a heavy beating. How did her grandma, or grand-mére get taken? She doesn’t know that either, her grand-mére was the bravest, strongest person she knew, yes, she was a little eccentric, but not as much as everyone else thought. In fact, she was the one who gave Scarlet her shotgun! Okay… maybe not just a little eccentric, but grand-mére had raised Scarlet, and she had done an excellent job according to Scarlet. Where is Grand-mére? Who took her and why? Who is that mysterious and seemingly shy street fighter with the striking green eyes? Why does he call himself Wolf? How does Scarlet's Grandmother connect her to Cinder? Find out and read the book!

  3. Cress - This book starts out in space, where Cress is living. She is a lunar shell, or a lunar who doesn't have powers and is immune to them. She is a computer genius who works for Queen Levana to spy on the Earthens, but the one piece of information she has concealed is the whereabouts of Cinder’s spaceship and crew. When her boss finds out, it is NOT pretty. Cinder tries to save Cress, but Cress’s satellite goes plummeting. Now, Cress is stuck with limited resources, a blind Thorne (Cinder's former crewmate), extra-long hair, and not nearly enough knowledge about Earth. Will that be sufficent? Will she survive? Will Cinder find her? Read the book to find out!

️SPOILERS END HERE

I would recommend these books for people 12+, as it is a young adult novel, although I read it at 8 and I LOVED it then, but it seems to get better every time I re-read it. The first book hooks you, but for me, the third wasn’t a page-turner, so I skipped it and came back to it later, which is why I recommend the book for older generations. I learned later that it was recommended to read it the way I did, but you can read it in whichever order you want. I love all of Marissa Meyer’s books that I have read, and she is my favorite author, though this series happens to be my favorite of them.
